I primarily use positive reinforcement and reward-based training to teach and shape new behaviours, while adjusting my approach to suit the individual dog , because every dog processes and responds to learning differently.
I do not use fear, intimidation, or threatening behaviour as punishment. That said, I believe certain tools (such as the e-collar) can have a place in training when introduced thoughtfully, carefully, and with the right guidance. Misuse or careless application can do more harm than good. My aim is to understand the science behind different methods and apply them responsibly, with your dog’s wellbeing and long-term success in mind.
Yes, I do. :) If any of the listed services doesn’t quite match your expectations, reach out via email with a detailed description of what you’re looking for, and I can create an alternative that suits you, your lifestyle, and your goals.
Absolutely! This would fall under a customised training plan, so feel free to get in touch via email or the contact form on the “Book an Appointment” page.
While I can certainly take the lead, lasting results always work best when we’re a team. You’ll receive a clear plan and tailored homework after each session, and a little consistency at home makes a big difference. In most cases, that simply means 5–10 minutes of training, 2 times a day — short, doable sessions that fit into real life.
You may have heard otherwise, but yes — you can absolutely teach an old dog new tricks! :)
Training should be incorporated into your dog’s daily life in some form as it provides excellent mental stimulation and enrichment.
Many of us own working breeds such as collies, huntaways, or spaniels who need more than just a leash walk around the block. Teaching new behaviours, regardless of age, builds resilience, supports mental wellbeing and strengthens the bond between you and your pup.
Progress depends on the individual dog, the behaviour being addressed, and the consistency outside of our sessions. Some changes happen quickly, while others take time and repetition. My focus is always on steady, sustainable improvement rather than short-term fixes.
Yes and no. If you’re willing to stay involved and practise a little between our 1:1 sessions, you can absolutely expect to see progress — keeping in mind that every dog learns at their own pace.
If you’re hoping for a one-session miracle without any follow-through, that’s unlikely. Real, lasting change takes consistency, guidance, and teamwork. Training isn’t a quick fix, it’s a process we move through together.
Yes. The first session is usually held at your home so I can understand your dog in their everyday environment.
After that, we can continue at your place or move sessions to a suitable local park or track, depending on your goals. Everything is tailored to suit you and your dog.
Zen & Zoomies services Wanaka, Lake Hawea, and Luggate with no additional travel fee. For Cromwell, Queenstown, and surrounding areas, a travel fee applies, and services are limited to 1:1 Training, Walk & Train, and customised training plans.

Please get in touch for a personalised quote based on your location.
Not just yet. As Zen & Zoomies grows, expanding into boarding or daycare may be something I explore in the future.
For now, I offer in-home care, allowing your pup to stay in their familiar environment which is often where they feel safest and most relaxed.
Life happens — I completely understand. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please give at least 24 hours’ notice where possible.
Late cancellations or missed sessions may be charged in full. If I ever need to reschedule, I’ll always do my best to offer a suitable alternative.
