1:1 Training & Coaching offers personalised support for dogs and their humans, focused on real life challenges and long-term change. Whether you’re navigating everyday struggles like loose-lead walking, unreliable recall, jumping up, or big feelings around other dogs, or you’re dealing with more complex behaviours such as reactivity, frustration, or resource guarding, sessions are tailored to your dog’s needs, history, and environment.

For puppies, training focuses on building strong foundations through thoughtful socialisation, confidence building, settling skills, handling, and early manners helping prevent issues before they start. For adolescent and adult dogs, we work on clarity, communication, and emotional regulation, using practical strategies you can apply in daily life. The goal isn’t perfection, but progress — supporting calmer walks, clearer communication, and a more connected life together.

Walk & Train is a structured 60-minute session combining a 30-minute walk with a 30-minute training session, designed for busy owners who want consistent, thoughtful training for their dog without needing to be present every time.
The first session is an in-depth consultation with you and your dog, similar to a one-on-one training appointment.

Follow-up sessions are carried out one-on-one with your dog and me. Each visit includes a purposeful walk to meet your dog’s physical and mental needs, followed by focused training at your home or, when appropriate, in public spaces. Training may be integrated into the walk itself, for example, practising recall, loose-leash skills, or engagement around distractions — always with safety, management, and your dog’s emotional wellbeing as priorities.

This service works especially well as a longer-term training plan, building skills through consistency, repetition, and real-life practice. You’ll stay informed with regular updates, videos or photos, and clear guidance so progress carries over into everyday life.

From everyday challenges to

clarity, safety, and long-term progress not perfection.

Balanced training isn’t about extremes, it’s about understanding how dogs learn and responding thoughtfully to the dog in front of us.
At Zen & Zoomies, training is grounded in behavioural science, emotional wellbeing, and real-life practicality.

I primarily use positive reinforcement to teach skills, build confidence, and strengthen the human–dog bond. When appropriate, I also draw from all four quadrants of operant conditioning — not as a rigid system, but as tools used carefully, ethically, and with intention.

What Balanced Training Really Means?

let's move past labels

“Balanced training means dominance or ‘being the boss’.”

“Using corrections will damage my relationship with my dog.”

"balanced training is harsh or harmful."

Explained!

05/

“Balanced training is a shortcut or a ‘quick fix.’”

04/

This is one of the most common concerns and understandably so. Poorly applied training methods can be harmful, regardless of the label attached to them. Ethical balanced training, however, is built around timing, fairness, and emotional awareness, not force or intimidation. When applied thoughtfully, it helps dogs learn how to cope with everyday challenges rather than avoiding them altogether. By teaching dogs how to respond to pressure, frustration, or uncertainty in a supported way, balanced training can actually build emotional resilience, helping dogs feel more confident, adaptable, and secure in the real world.

Relationships are damaged by confusion, inconsistency, and emotional reactions, not by calm, well-timed feedback.
When dogs clearly understand what’s expected and what happens when they make different choices they often become more relaxed and confident. A strong training relationship is built on trust, clarity, and communication, not on the absence of boundaries.

Modern balanced training has nothing to do with dominance theory, alpha roles, or power struggles.
Dogs don’t need to be dominated. They need guidance, consistency, and understanding. Balanced training is about teaching dogs how to navigate their world successfully, not about control for control’s sake. Leadership, in this context, looks like predictability, fairness, and follow-through.

Balanced training is not about shortcuts in fact, it often requires more skill, observation, and responsibility from the trainer. The aim is long-term change, not suppression. Behaviours are addressed at their root by considering motivation, emotion, environment, and learning history. Progress happens through consistency, repetition, and real-life practice not magic solutions.

“Positive reinforcement works for every dog in every situation.”

Positive reinforcement is incredibly effective and forms the foundation of my work  but dogs don’t learn in controlled environments alone. Life is full of distractions, unpredictability, and moments where emotions run high.
In these situations, balanced training allows dogs to practise making good choices even when things feel hard. Rather than removing all challenges, we carefully introduce them at a level the dog can handle. Over time, this helps dogs develop coping skills and resilience, so they can stay engaged and regulated in more demanding environments.

The goal is always the same:

Calm minds, happy doggos.

For balanced support focused on progress, not perfection, you’re in the right place.
